'Mommy, why are you calling it a parade if there aren't any floats?' Me at over 40: still thinks the inauguration day parade the day Reagan stopped being president deserved floats, fireworks, a couple of county high school marching bands, the works. And then at the end of the year, Berlin Wall.

In hindsight, it's actually kind of scary how adorably tiny I was when I learned the theory of how to hold a sledgehammer without hurting yourself by observation, because of course those videos were all over the news and my parents were glued to the evening news every night.
