As a reminder, when Trump says he is putting massive tariffs on China, or any nation, that means he is putting a massive tax on YOU. China doesn't pay a single penny. You, the consumer, do.

When Trump claims the U.S. will receive $1 trillion in revenue from tariffs, that is not money coming from other countries. That is $1 trillion is coming out of YOUR pocket.

True .. sort of. If they sell a widget for $100, and now a tariff makes it $110….then yes the $10 comes from the consumer. But…the demand for $110 widget is less than demand for $100 widgets… so, if they want to sell the same amount of widgets…they need to eat the costs…. It gets complicated quick

which is why it doesnt go from a 100 dollar widget to a 110 dollar widget. it goes to a 140 dollar widget to make up for the drop in demand from the added tariff cost.

Other countries do not pay tariffs. The US companies bringing in merchandise pay the tariffs at the point of entry to the Treasury. Those companies in turn add this extra cost to the price of products which we the consumers end up paying.

And it's a regressive "consumption tax" (larger % paid by poor) not the progressive "income tax" (rich pay fair share for the USA) bsky.app/profile/phys...

Also: tax the corps at a higher rate; nothing wrong with the federal budget that would not be fixed by 38% corp tax. All the focus on "spending" is distraction. The problem is *Revenue*! So of course, the GOP wants to kill the IRS.

Do you think the MAGA will understand that even if they get a sliver of the tax cuts, they’re just effectively getting their own money back? I doubt it. Faux news will spin it as a gift from the great orange god.

Huh? That's not true... The US will get incresed revenue from these tarrifs, but it will also increase prices for consumers. Additionally, Trump will ruin industries, like big agro again, and have to bail them out. Inflation will also increase as supply receeds.

Actually when we place a tariffs on a country when the item gets to port in the USA we charge the company in the usa that is importing it pays the the tariffs and then that company passes the cost to the customers. The country that exports it to us does not pay the tariffs we do

Actually... that's the same thing I said. The destination country charges the company, and that becomes revenue for the country of destination. The companies importing the products, can then chose to pass those costs on to consumers, which they usually do.

The list of everyday discretionary and required items Americans import from China is immense & Trump just doubled the cost for all of us. If we were like him, granted absolute immunity to do whatever we please & awash in $billions flowing to us daily, we wouldn’t care about the tariffs either.
