signs like these are up all over Chicago cafes and storefronts (here, cafes in Brighton Park and Back of the Yards) warning ICE not to enter without a judicial warrant

Exactly! Every business of every kind, in every city should prohibit ICE, and have large signs saying so And if they *won’t* do that, consumers should boycott those businesses They’re either supporting their community, or they’re supporting ICE

It’s good to see people resisting but ICE doesn’t need warrants, thanks to the post 9/11 police state apparatus. They’ve always been a sort of extrajudicial terror group, they just haven’t been used so broadly and carelessly before.

Everything continues to be just awful, but can we at least have a chuckle over the implication that some ICE agents can only read Spanish? I know that's not why they put it up there, it just makes me chuckle.

Disappointed by the one that's only "You are not permitted to access non-public areas of this space without [warrant]" when it could be "You are not permitted in this space and we refuse to accept your business", but yeah.

How effective is this piece of paper going to be against people who keep blowing by the REQUIRED pieces of paper THEY'RE to have? I DO AGREE, the best option businesses have is to refuse on legal grounds to align themselves or provide services to ICE agents.

In civilized countries like Canada and Australia, no one has to put signs up to tell law enforcement to follow the law. I have never seen a sign like that in Canada (actually I have never seen CBSA off of airport property).

I’ve been calling local hardware stores and corporate offices of the big stores to ask about their policies. I’ve had some great conversations. Shop local.
