I spend all day worrying about what to cover and making sure that important stories don’t get left behind, and Politico is assigning three reporters to write a story to keep the police union happy? What a fucking joke.

The only reason I can think of for this news not being absolutely everywhere is that large media orgs don’t want to be seen as putting their thumbs on the scales a week before election day. And that’s cowardly as shit.

For the fabulously wealthy, paying taxes is pretty much optional. They can borrow against their vast wealth, which is mostly an untaxed capital gain, without paying taxes. When they die, the capital gain goes to zero. And loopholes exist to bypass the estate tax too.

There are several reasons why the NYT supports the GOP and Trump’s movement (though they may dislike him personally) but I think it boils down to the simple, and frankly sickening, fact that they don’t want the more inclusive world that liberals are trying to achieve.

Another data point for the “Yglesias brain is cooked” hypothesis. Imagine thinking that it doesn’t matter for American democracy if other countries are taken over by autocratic regimes. We just saw the result when Orban lost power and a bunch of conservative influencers had their income vaporized.

I just think Matt's wrong about this. We're at a point in our technological development where a ton of problems spill over national borders--if Flavio Bolsonaro burns down the Amazon, that will flood houses in Miami.
