This "study" is unethical & deadly - and it's not the first time they have tried it. In March we sent an investigator out to Guinea-Bissau and got the initial trial cancelled. It was shelved, and now they are bringing it back. 🧵

I am so relieved to see you reporting on this—as a science advocate is there anything I can do usefully? This trial is blatantly unethical and should not go ahead Thank you so much for reporting!

Yes, I am UK based—this whole thing is just a clear failure of ethical oversight How can anyone think it’s acceptable to leave babies at risk from the horrible effects of this disease when there is a safe and effective vaccine available is beyond me, it’s just…horrendous

Quinhin Nantote disputed that the study is moving forward after convening an emergency meeting with the Danish researchers, the local ethics committee, and others. “Any scientific research initiative involving human beings, particularly children, ‌must strictly comply" with the rules, he said.

So is this true or is it CYA after a *second* round of international outrage? Or are we seeing glimpses of something else? (Right hand doesn’t know what the left hand is doing, and the left hand tries to push something through via inertia and media?)
