Okay something that enrages me disproportionately: I walk along a stretch of canal almost every day (on average for the last 20 years it would be >1 times a day) The stretch I walk along is apparently “officially” a river It’s not, it’s a CANAL!!! There is a lock and everything WHY???

Okay, so I am crying…

Stop what you are doing and look at this lovely story. A photography student in the 80s took pictures of punks and mods on the street in Preston. He’s now tracked them down and photographed them again. The pictures and stories are really ❤️ www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

My pal Danielle Koenig shared that her father Walter Koenig passed away last night at age 90. A performer whose kindness and warmth shone through the screen. He will be well remembered.

This is fucking heartbreaking I’m not exactly neurotypical and nor are my children But the idea I need a fucking jumped up predictive text to tell me three ways my children are special is utterly insulting They’re weird, they’re beautiful and they deserve the world And I will fight for them

I love gulls, they are just incredible creatures! I’ve rescued a couple which have ended up tangled in fishing line…I do have little scars on my hand as a memento of a gull life hopefully saved… Beautiful animals My younger child loves their calls!

When I rhapsodise about gulls there's always someone who says, "You just wait until one swoops down and steals your sandwich." But that already happened. I thought it was hugely technically impressive and tinged with comic genius and it made me like gulls even more. What should I wait for next?

The Government™ has made an ad about all these protests happening around the world, and it’s surprisingly honest and informative.

New sanctioned (t)rant about AI just dropped. On the limits of Alphafold and my worries about the disaster its use will cause for the literature and early-stage academic drug discovery. Look, they commissioned it. And by commissioned I don't mean I got paid, just invited. Awesome process btw.

I really appreciate this line, John. "We must be able to challenge and potentially falsify every decision point so that when something inevitably goes wrong, we can try to figure out where we went wrong. Protein-structure models don’t allow for this." Well thought out piece

We love it when filmmakers take direct inspiration from great artists and classic paintings. Here are some of our favourites… First up, The Truman Show (1998) and Au clair de lune (1956) by René Magritte. 1/35

Told my mum Spruce the Cat is on Gabapentin for her nerve pain, mum asked “what dose is she on?” I told her and mum went “I’m on *way* more than that.” Because apparently my mum’s in a one sided beef with my cat.

HOLY CRAP! "DUCKS" hit ONE MILLION views on YouTube today!? 🤯 Thank you to everyone who shared it, commented, told me they loved it/hated it/hate me for making it. It's really mind-blowing that someone I made sat at a desk can be seen by so many eyeballs. www.youtube.com/watch?v=L8vZ...

I’m also going to mention that www.harkale.art created this amazing artwork as a commission for me and @gamebyrd.bsky.social Especially meaningful as we are friends who live a long way apart, and the two artworks form a diptych (MB is Gamebird’s, to your no doubt utter amazement: Gurathin is mine)

An Irish writer reached out to me recently about her book and would I like to quote on it. Unfortunately I read the message when I was on the road and now can't remmeber a) her name b) the name of the book c) which socials it was on. If that was you, please shout! If it wasn't, please share?

Alex Skarsgård appears from all available evidence to be an absolutely delightful human He was 100% the correct choice to play Murderbot 👇The photo below was my moment of “OH! I think he’s going to be great as SecUnit…” #murderbot

Meta and Twitter are pretty awful. Bluesky is far from perfect, but here we are. One of the things that makes Bluesky bearable is the lack of algorithm - but because there is no algorithm it is so much more important that you share literally everything you like. It's the only way people see it!

I think my ability to distinguish between "I am feeling weirdly anxious and low today" and "I am just a person having a totally normal reaction to being alive during the 2020s" might have completely vanished.
