My reason is that I got used to using ChatGPT first, I was too lazy to try to learn other tools, and then when OpenAI launched Codex, I figured I can give it a try since I already have an account…

Also I kinda feel more comfortable having a thing I tell in the browser to do something which only has read access to my GitHub repo, than running something in the terminal on my computer where it has access to my actual computer

Consider installing the Claude Code desktop app. It's visually similar to the Web app but you can give it access to your filesystem, etc.

The reason I ended up with Claude is that OpenAI eventually blocked my card after I missed a payment a few times (EU debit “credit” cards, needs manual approval). Started doing MCP with Claude, ever looked back. I think ChatGPT was nicer for images and other included tools, but Claude is better at

I started to “fall in love” with Claude Code for the very same reasons you mentioned. Then I had technical problems to connect Claude code in the brewing my GitHub account and needy to retry multiple times. Then they banned me. Recently started to use Codex more besides Copilot in VSCode.

That’s is actually a pretty crazy reason to choose Codex, sorry that happened to you. 😬
