AndroidXR's release solidifies it -- I'm going to have to build all future XR apps using Unity XR Interaction Toolkit. Honestly, I should've done it for GTC too but I wanted to play with Meta's toys

That's exciting! I hope they continue to do more OpenXR integration for their other SDKs. Haptics and Interaction SDK is a good start. In my case, I especially hope they do so for the Mixed Reality Utility Kit, though that might be a big big ask

Yeah. I genuinely believe they *want* to keep their stuff open and flexible so cross platform devs can everything, but it takes time for OpenXR to catch up with all the features they have.

Annoyingly a lot of the core features are OpenXR underneath, they have just wrapped them up precisely so it *isn’t* as easy to port to something else.

Naw, the vanilla OpenXR implementations of things are just frequently terrible or missing features, and need to be wrapped. We've been shipping VR games for a decade going back to Gear/Rift/Vive launch and never been able to ship anything that just uses vanilla OpenXR on any platform.

As soon as Meta started using an OpenXR backend, they could have their done stuff in a much more cross-platform manner and saved everyone a headache. I’m building github.com/mikeskydev/u... to prove that, and as a bonus @openbrush.app will now ship a single apk for Pico and Quest, with Passthrough!

I'm glad folks like you are trying to make OpenXR better. I've been very frustrated that they seem less receptive to feedback than the platforms have been with their individual SDKs, and don't have high confidence it will ever be something we can use without a lot of extra stuff on top of it.

XrGetInstanceProcAddr gives you access to any extension function you wish, which is how I can do this without any vendor SDKs. Lovely function that was inspired by Vulkan.
