Spark universe makes good output. Their marketplace content is always up to quality and they’ve directly collaborated with Mojang before. But they also know the business and operate like one. I hope they generate funds to help encourage the creator ecosystem and not to purely gain from it.

Commerciallized slop. Why would I want a historically community modded block game to be a commercial venture for companies looking to resell things others have already made.

kind of expected something like this to happen eventually, but still extremely disappointing i was hoping it would take a little bit longer than this, oh well cant wait to see microtransactions in the modrinth launcher!

It actually pisses me off that everyone is talking about Spark Universe like them having optional paid cosmetics in the Essential mod is the problem. I had to actually go digging to find out the real issue with them, this sort of info should be what people are sharing:

While I do agree with the whole monopoly thing, The big issue people have with the cosmetics is that they went from direct USD purchases to use our virtual currency. Meaning they intentionally went for a more malicious system.

Honestly I would say worse than Bedrock Marketplace, Because while they adopt similar principles Marketplace went into the get go with premium currency. Compared to Essential which probably saw profit and wondered how could convert it into more money. Marketplace is also a little more transparent.

The Essential mod is trying to be an "everything mod" designed to push out competition by crudely approximating features from other mods, being deliberately incompatible to limit what else you can install, and forcing dependency by acting as a mod library for developers.

People should be ashamed for hyper-fixating on their store instead of the modding monopoly they're trying to foster. Them acquiring Modrinth is a problem because they will most definitely continue the trend there, only now they can deplatform anyone who doesn't fall in line.

I’m super hyped to see what’s next for Modrinth with more resources behind it. Spark makes some really good stuff and they’re about as good a fit as any to make this work. 🥳🥳🥳

You can expect Modrinth to literally get enshittifed by Spark Universe as they gate features behind paywalls/download limits under the guise of "supporting them" within in next months. Honestly a massive L for Modrinth, which is a huge shame because they're the last bastion for Minecraft Modding.

Please reconsider this. You have no business joining the creators of a goddamned microtransaction mod and it's only going to be detrimental to the platform in the short and long term.

Yeeeep. It was really gross. Like the entire time the chat was fucking screaming at them and then they read the most fucking tame questions possible, and usually don't even answer those ones. There was like only 2-3 people actually defending them and 2 of those three were likely trolls

spark universe can go suck itself, and the modrinth team is saying "trust me bro" while partnering with the scummiest cosmetics mod with a mile long license agreement known to man essential is just everything wrong with bedrock brought to java

Hey there, as one of the people helping to moderate the chat, I can assure you that "disagreeing" was not a reason for getting blocked. Personal insults towards the people on or off-screen, spam, and being generally disrespectful were.

I mean if Modrinth really is open source people can just fork it, and I'm sure they would rather have that than deal with ads and microtransactions. Honestly yeah this does destroy all value the platform had, lack of independence makes it no different from Curseforge. Great fucking job.

Truth... Needs to have a funny logo with funny edgy social media marketing. I'd make it mild cerulean and call it ModFrog. That's a joke this problem haunts me. Maybe the answer is a launcher that pulls from Modrinth and Curseforge both, without giving them any IDF money

its the people behind the Essential mod, the one that has a ton of microtransactions in it for no reason and the only useful feature of it (hosting local worlds online) is now in better mods (e2mc) AND vanilla

Ya I looked them up and I have already had people contact me about problems with mods been accepted on there platform, I am now worried for the future of my mods if people have already seen internal changes this means we might be F'd in the A in the future.
