Every facet of generative AI has made my professional life worse, without question, but THIS specific aspect has been driving me NUTS. Clients, who have made me toil for weeks over indescribably small details, are now approving & producing in-house commercial artwork that looks like a fever dream.

[me, retouching a single pixel highlight on a bg character's eyeball for the twelfth time in one hour] "Gotta get this right. The entire campaign depends upon it..." [client, staring at the ball of melting, screaming meat that ChatGPT made, instead of a person] "😍 OMG! 😍 ship it!!!!"

I was thinking, I experiences a slightly similar thing when an ad agency I'd been working with decided to start their own 3D in-house team, from scratch. They were so high on their own farts that they didn't apply the same critical eye and everything they produced was abysmal.

The main difference, is that their end clients weren't happy, so they came back to me. I don't know if that's going to happen here...

Our industry has always been on the edge of being wholly irredeemable. So yea this might be it. I guess at least if this all comes even remotely close to how the boosters hope it'll so thoroughly eat its own tail there will be nothing left. Google isnt building it's genAI shit for agencies.
