Hey, that's a nice [THING YOU DO FOR PERSONAL PLEASURE], be a real shame if somebody were to [CONVINCE YOU TO MONETIZE IT, TRANSFORMING YOUR RELATIONSHIP INTO AN OBLIGATION AND ROBBING YOU OF JOY]
I took up learning guitar because all my other hobbies have become monetised in some way or another, and it was depressing.
I play for nobody but me, I’m not great but after a couple years I’m able to freestyle pretty well. It’s my little piece of enjoyment that isn’t allowed to touch monetisation
Do it! I waited forever to start and I love it now. Get a second hand guitar that sounds and looks good enough. If you are going for electric get a cheap midsized amp. There are an insane amount of easy songs to learn and you dont have to play them perfectly anyway. If you want any advice dm me!
You can’t go wrong, honestly, but get something *nice*. Something you think is cool. If you really like the idea of it, you’ll pick it up more, and that’s the key to progress. And the nicer it is, the less you’ll be fighting with it.
First guitar was electric. I got a cheap squier clone from Amazon to see if I’d actually stick with it before buying something more substantial.
Once I got comfortable with it I started buying others. Also branched out to mandolin and ukulele. Once you find your footing with the 6-string…
…it gets easy to learn others.
My favourite now is my semi-acoustic electric. I struggle with a full size standard acoustic though, my arms are too short to comfortably strum the strings
If you have no equipment (and neither do your close friends/family) acoustics are great for learning basics. Tuning an unplugged electric to the perfect pitch is... interesting.
