yes 1st person POV is currently "in" with a lot of people but when I started writing, people got on the internet and claimed constantly that 1st person POV was for people too lazy to learn the craft of conveying deep POV in third. people have always had weird preferences & always will!

“I have had readers come up to me at book signings and say, to my face, ‘I won’t read this book of yours because it’s in third person.’ ” slate.trib.al/T4OhzHf

It’s funny, my brain struggles mightily to stay in books written in 1st person present tense, particularly if it’s dual perspective. My brain constantly falls out of the story and focuses on the sentences. This means I’ve largely been pushed out of romance due to present trends. To each their own!

I think it just depends on what you're reading? romance is so vast, it is pretty easy to find plenty of us still writing in 3rd person/past?

Probably, but most of the bestsellers that get talked about or the ones I flip through in the bookstore seem to be first person present tense. And my problem is only with first person present tense. Past tense is fine.
