If you joke about how you wish the south had been allowed to secede, the only conclusion I can come to is that you're a screaming racist who is completely ignorant of civil rights history. Don't get it twisted, y'all. White folks in the north had basically NOTHING to do with that progress.

This is the bazillionth reason why no one should flippantly talk about getting rid of the southern states. We should never turn our backs on the powerful organizing happening there. We should not cast away the activists working to make change — and who in doing so risk way more than we do up north.

The fucking thoughtless racism it takes to not realise that saying that is saying you wish Confederacy had won and thereby allowed chattel slavery to continue, that you are wishing the southern states’ slaves and their descendants to have never been freed, is SO INFURIATING.

The idea that the people who are harmed first and foremost by any given horrible racist government’s actions, who are the first to *resist* those actions, are indeed citizens and residents OF that government’s jurisdiction appears beyond so many people’s grasp, and I genuinely do not understand why.

And I was raised in New England. I know that I was taught in elementary school that the Bad Folks in the South wanted to continue slavery so all the Good Folks in the North fought them over it, but if you're older than 9 & that is still the framework you're bringing to politics, we have issues.
