this disaster is terrible and we may not survive it our descendants may not survive it but we are children of disaster the ones that made us and the ones that nearly unmade us but did not so we might

god, maybe some day @rahaeli.bsky.social and I will both have spines that are not melting AND meds that work at the same time again, because we also have all the Dragon Age stuff to write, not just the #DCEAUoD. I want to inflict Alim Surana from the modern AU on you all so badly. he is hilarious.

why the fuck in this, the Year Seven Of Our Pandemic, are there people dicknosing their masks. why. no one has had mask mandates in years. what do they feel they are accomplishing?? beyond baffling me, which they are accomplishing but surely is not the point for them?

The reason to mask is to protect yourself from whatever contagions others may be carrying or to protect others from contagions you may be carrying! Absent a mask mandate, presumably you are wearing a mask because you believe one of those apply! IT CAN’T PROTECT ANYONE IF YOU DON’T WEAR IT CORRECTLY

I don’t mask all the time in public since I got confident in antihistamines as the main layer of my covid prevention, but I do still mask in a lot of places and you better fucking believe I am wearing them correctly when I do. BECAUSE THEY DON’T HELP IF YOU DON’T WEAR THEM CORRECTLY W/ A GOOD SEAL.

hey chat is it a good sign when you dump 2.5 grams of sodium (thats one packet of hyper and two scoops of sport skratch) into 24oz of water and ice, and it doesnt even taste sweet it just tastes like vaguely fruity water?

I have survived Southwest’s godawful fucking seats without dislocating my hip, my gate-checked bag did not take eternity to come out, and none of the maniacs on the road managed to run us off it, so honestly that’s all wins as far as travel goes.

yes, dislocating my hip was in fact a risk, Southwest’s seats dislocated the damn thing 21 years ago, that’s *why* it’s my bad hip. it wasn’t a *big* risk, since I wasn’t in a middle seat contorting myself into a position such that I could sleep away my misery away, but yeah.

I can never fucking remember which side of T4 the A/D is vs the BC checkpoint, but one thing I will say for PHX is we genuinely have some great food and drink, both inside and outside the security perimeter. it is, of course, as overpriced as all airport fare is but at least it’s good!

how about I tag this thread with the tag spelled correctly this time, sigh. #DCEAUoD this is what I get for posting a thread pre-caffeine.

Your #DCEUAoD cuteness for the day: the first time Lex stays overnight at the Kents, he wanders into the kitchen barefoot at like 6am and goes “Did… one of *you*… take my socks… ??” Martha and Jonathan crack up laughing while Clark says, “Oh, sorry! We forgot to warn you Sweetie steals socks.”

Sweetie is the black and white former feral cat who self-domesticated by jumping up on Clark’s shoulder like “that was fun! where are we going next, human?” when he went to release her back in to the colony of TNR ferals his family manage.

Lex is not unconfused. “I might’ve thought it was the cat, but my bag was zipped shut,” he says, baffled. “How??” “She has little crime paws and little crime teeth,” Martha says, wryly. “Opening a zipper is nothing.” “But,” Lex says plaintively, “how did she even know they were in there to steal?”

“They were wool, weren’t they?” Martha asks, amused, and Lex nods. “We think she can smell them.” “Or maybe she has a sock-sensing meta power!” Clark adds cheerfully. “I’ll go check her nest for you, Lex, thankfully she doesn’t mind when we steal them back.”

ah, small towns, where the person checking you into the hotel goes "oh, I'm so sorry! I'd heard she was on hospice but didn't know she'd passed," when the answer to "what brings you to town" is "stepmother-in-law passed away, anyway that's my father-in-law over there getting us a table for dinner".

the small town in question is very, very fucking small. postage-stamp small. no, really, smaller than you're thinking. the-population-density-per-square-mile-is-higher-than-the-permanent-population small. (it's a tourist trap. many more people work in town than live here.)

birthday has been celebrated with excellent drinks and good food despite this fucking week/month/year having been spectacularly shit, and my cats remain really cute and solicitously sweet most of the time so I guess I will stay the cleansing thermonuclear fire for another year

anyway hula’s modern tiki is shockingly affordably priced at $12 for most of their cocktails—and they aren’t chintzing on the pours to make up the difference (granted that rum is cheap as liquor goes, but still)—and their most expensive entree being less than $30. the scorpion bowl was v nice!

Do I have anyone here who has a Chinese proxy service for purchasing character goods that they’d recommend? @traykor.bsky.social suckered me into one of her donghua and I desperately need a plushie of one of the main characters (he’s a marten!) but there is basically no English language fandom.

an absolutely BONKERS indoor/outdoor cat run threaded through my also-bonkers custom built house complete with a spacious catio with plenty of human seating. with gates in the run so we can close the cats into a given area as needed.

question for the audience: if you were ultra rich (let’s say $25M), what completely frivolous thing are you buying?

I occasionally wonder if Mamdani has made any progress on dealing with the rat buffets, because iirc that one is a pretty intractable problem politically/culturally! while being FUCKING HORRIFYING to anyone who lives in a modern city that does not build rat buffets every week.

(no I am still not over learning that NYC does not have mechanised garbage trucks and garbage bins, that they just. build. buffets for rats. every week. just piles of bags of trash put on the damn street. it does explain WHY the rats are infamous but also oh my GOD, THIS IS A SOLVED PROBLEM.)

sharilyn, as much as i understand why you gave the fucking political donor lists my email address instead of yours, I’d almost gotten off all of them and NOW I AM STARTING OVER FROM SCRATCH, so from the bottom of my heart I want to know: fuuuuuck you.

because I swear to fuck half the anti-drug attitudes out there are because people do not understand that “making a tincture” is the EXACT SAME THING as “extracting into solution using a solvent”. literally. l i t e r a l l y those are the SAME. THING.
