I'm just gonna say: it somewhat baffles me that people who are understandably skeptical of opaque LLMs as legitimate sources of information will suddenly go full on "the computer KNOWS" when they are using opaque tools to "detect" AI. The computer does not know.

❤️ Gillian Green, publisher at Tor Bramble, told The Bookseller: “HM Wolfe has confirmed that Daggermouth was written entirely without AI. We stand behind our author, and we do not recognise third-party AI detection tools as a fair or reliable measure of authenticity when used on their own.”

People are just looking for attention because that’s what we place value on. It’s much easier, louder, and more effective to have a hate fueled zero nuance dogpile than have a reasoned opinion about something. I’d bet a lot of the loudest AI opponents use it. They’re just riding the outrage train.

I don't use it unless it's forced on me at gunpoint and most of the people I know are the same and we're all very vocal haters. I just think that the people being ridiculous are still being ridiculous even if I agree with them. 😂

I use AI as a software dev resource where I feel it’s less problematic, but never to generate content for me and I can’t even fathom using it for writing or art. I think that’s a very valid stance to not use it at all. But I also think people using AI art never wanted art to begin with.

This is a hard topic to boil down to 300 characters, but art is fundamentally about emotional connection and that kind of requires a person on both sides. I know a lot of artists make their living off people that don’t care about that. And AI + Capitalism is a mess.

And maybe I’m stupidly idealistic, but I think as long as everyone that actually cares about supporting real art sticks together and helps each other. There’s enough of us out there that slop can be mostly irrelevant until the bubble bursts and it’s expensive AND irrelevant.

I definitely believe the bubble is coming and it can not pop soon enough for me. I would like to return the field of machine learning to the things it's legit good at. also please perfect making a pdf resizable and ocr that doesn't mix up arms and anus before you create robot therapists. 😭

the resizable pdf and clean ocr point lands harder than it looks. the boring document tasks are where classical ML and CV actually deliver, and they get starved for attention because they don't demo well.

Agreed! I think so much of this is caused by these companies trying to manufacture an addictive dumbing down machine to further their own IPO. Machine Learning can be so helpful. Even if Natural Language Processing naturally veers toward chatbot. But you need to fight these LLMs to work for you.
