What about data centers is making folks so mad they forget to even be racist??? Like??? Are the tech CEOs just this off-putting? Are we all just this exhausted of rich fuckers? I still want to understand.

People keep telling me "oh but they can see how this impacts them in their own backyard" and like I'm sorry but I live in rural Alabama, I can see how 8,000 GOP policy decisions impact all of us every day. But usually the white conservatives are selectively oblivious because (usually) racism.

I think the problem making white guys upset is that rich white men can't buy their way out of data centers moving in. The proposed centers are not being kept "over there" enough, partially because of the water consumption issue, but its not aesthetic or property-value-increasing like a golf course.

the community I'm thinking about down the road from me is definitely not rich, though. these are not a group of people who have been able to buy their way out of anything before this. and never seemed to want to? I'm sure that is the reason for SOME people. But it's much wider than that!

For sure, there's a lot of variety in the populations opposing them. I'm operating on the theory that all white R voters think they're temporarily embarrassed millionaires and side with wealthy oil barons to their own detriment.

I think a lot of people ONLY got burned by venture capital projects in their communities, that makes a lot of sense.
