When I say I love Cheesecake Factory, I mean this cat who was found malnourished and wandering through a Bay Area mall parking lot. Cheesecake Factory has since been rescued and nursed back to health. He's now healthy, vaxxed, & sweet, but still needs a loving home www.petfinder.com/cat/cheeseca...

I want to be radically neutral about other people's appearances and choices but it is so hard for me to get used to it when a youtuber starts cosmetic botox for the first time and suddenly their face looks ... Uncomfortable to be in. All I can see is the muscles that used to move.

I hate that I care about this, but I had Botox for migraines at one point and while it was worth it at the time and I am glad I did it, it also has left a permanent asymmetry in one eyebrow, I don't care but I would care a lot more if I had gotten botox to look different.

I dunno. I get it. I have facial dysphoria so bad that there is literally no way to cosmetically alter my face to look the way I think it should to be mine, even with surgeries. I get it. And also? Botox specifically makes me sad. Thinking aging is bad makes me sad.

I literally can't get my correct gender marker on my corrected birth certificate (X) because my state driver's license can only be F or M, which functionally means I'm not allowed to vote because my IDs don't match which is a felony, but somehow being nonbinary isn't part of my trans oppression?

Jess O'Thomson@jessothomson.co.uk

I still just find the idea that nonbinary people are somehow not materially oppressed like the real transsexuals are very funny. Like do you really think people with they/them pronouns on their CVs have an equal opportunity at employment? Lmao.

I also cannot get a passport until there is a final decision on whether or not X gender markers are legal so I'm just stuck with a bunch of ids that do not and now cannot match

I cannot laugh at the very sad anti-spice post going around because the worldview of anti sexual pleasure Christians is so incredibly damaging. Yeah their husbands are bad at sex. No they don't communicate about it or google basic sex ed. They also don't believe in divorce. It's pretty terrible.

Trying to get rid of or hide romance novels so their reluctantly coupled friends and unenthusiastically conceived daughters don't seek out better, expect more from men, demand respect and dignity from their society and religious group, isn't just pathetic. It's also the impulse of an evil heart.

Evangelical women are why I will never accept the Victorian claptrap that women are softer and gentler and less prone to violence, the better and wiser sex. Nobody commits to hate like someone who knows their only avenue to express power is over children.

When you tell people they need to prepare their entire lives to go into an experience of extreme vulnerability totally unprepared and with NO conversations or negotiations with the person they are being vulnerable with, most of them end up fucked up about it. Even me, who knew that was bullshit.

If romance novels with explicit sex scenes and heterosexual men who seek consent and say please and thank you and bring the heroine coffee in bed and vote for their human rights and support their wrongs make them feel sad and unfulfilled, that's not on romance writers.

They are trying to make sure every other woman in the world is trapped in an abusive, controlling, unsatisfying relationship with someone who doesn't understand consent because of the sunk cost fallacy, that's diabolical, not funny.

I spent so much of my adolescence completely disinterested in sex and dating because I hated everyone I knew, and constantly being force fed information about how sex is so mind-blowing if you have it you'll never want to do anything else, and it fucked me up? It's true. It fucked me up.

Every time a democrat endorses a policy that is harmful to trans people, they're literally now signing up to do murder. Not like, abstractly. Someone is going to die early because of the literal, physical cumulative stress from how hard it is to exist like this even if the policy isn't enacted.

I will never rest until transphobes are stressed out and dying young of cardiac problems and from spending so much of their lives broke, sleeping in their cars, afraid to go outside, unable to participate in a civic society with those beliefs, the way they want to drive us to extinction.

Their favorite target is CHILDREN, little girls, the children of my community, and they're literally throwing poison into our water and burning up the air we breathe and telling kids they'll hunt them down in schools and bathrooms and people and I'm expected to make nice? I'm never making nice.

I struggle to imagine this really happened, which is what I think whenever these people talk about their children. I know my parents didn't know me and never tried to, but that never stopped them from making up shit about me if asked.

It should be legal to feed rotten eggs to scholars who change the spelling of an author's name in their bibliography. Do not fucking "standardize" someone's name in the bibliographic entry, the name as presented on the title page is the bibliographic entry!!!!

These scholars are pretty lucky I'm not allowed to hunt them down with a stake to slay them as vampire sires for all the horrible misspelled zombie citations of books that don't exist

Get your pumpkin carving kit *now* before it's later tonight and you convince yourself a steak knife will work just fine, but it won't and you'll be posting on Bluesky saying, "I just lacerated myself carving a pumpkin. CPSC is going to be so disappointed in me :( "

This thread is so good.

It’s good that cheesecake factory is decorated like an occult temple to an eldritch deity. Any restaurant can feed you cheesecake, only Cheesecake Factory makes it feel like part of a ritual

I would myself assume ridesharing, that is when I put a mask on for a car ride, but I don't have the kind of family money that means you can survive getting brain worms.

Jessica Ellis@baddestmamajama.bsky.social

RFK decided to once again target maskers in a speech, laughing about going to LA and seeing people driving in their cars while masked. And I want to make sure people know that studies have shown that the reason someone might wear a mask in their car is that it's none of your fucking business.

We learned from orcas, among others, that animals with a concept of captivity can and will destroy themselves (and us!) if they cannot be free and you want to DEFEND the animal torture that resulted in the DEATH OF YOUR COWORKER rather than let them be free?? Lordy. I cannot.

carol@bookish-notes.bsky.social

I see y’all talking about the james patterson getting into romantasy of it all, but not y’all should know the author tapped for cowriting this book is the weirdo who spends all her time talking about how orcas should be kept in captivity

Me, downloading a file titled "69. Russian gays, lesbians and transssxuals.pdf" from a .RU hosted book database because it is a scan of an academic research text, despite all evidence to the contrary like the weirdly sexy cover: maybe it's time I finally get a VPN

I really need researchers who talked to "anonymous community members" of violently oppressed groups in places where their discovery could result in death to fucking pass an IRB ethics review first about not saying "yeah I talked to people there :)" like it doesn't endanger anyone you spoke to.

I know ten thousand people will be like "HIV is survivable now", but hundreds of thousands of things that were an almost inevitable death sentence are now survivable, from premature births to celiac disease to HIV. Astounding.

Social media loves talking about how everything is getting worse. But what’s something that you’ve seen get _better_ in your lifetime?

The pesticides responsible for some of my genetic weirdness is now banned, people no longer get sprayed with it. Have we talked about lead poisoning? Did you know there's now treatments for hemophilia that allow people to have a normal lifespan?
