I am now on book #7 and I regret to inform all of you who told me that the books got worse that I actually think they're getting better. Or maybe I'm just way more interested in intergalactic politics than I am in loot boxes. 🤣

I've been bopping in & out in between reading other things, but I did just finish book 3 and have downloaded book 4, for those keeping track of my DCC journey! I have a lot of chores/organizing/cleaning to do over the next week so I may make it through this book faster than the last one. We'll see!

oh, I don't think that is why they're better. LOL like, if anything, in my author group chats we're talking about how these books are proof that we can ignore the growing push to strip everything down & microexplain it, because the later books are SPRAWLING EVERYWHERE.

ha! yes. i didn’t mean on a developmental or focus type of editing, but his individual sentences and paragraphs got much more nicely written. the first few books, he would reuse the exact same pattern in paragraphs over & over and he stopped that entirely in the final ~3 books.

in my defense, I don't even like loot boxes when I'm actually playing games. I am the person they had to create armor skins for because I refused to wear the good armor if it wasn't pretty.

Book 5 is my favorite because I'm biased towards rich assholes getting killed by people they didn't think were people. But in general, I like that the series pulls back from Carl & Donut's immediate survival and gets into the alien politics happening in the background
