How about a curated stream that doesn’t require all my free time to scroll through?

How does one keep up with this firehose of posts? Maybe I just don’t understand how to use this system. On X I had to limit following to a dozen or less. And then on startup it puts me at the most recent post, not the last one I read. Large numbers of posts on one’s timeline seems unworkable.
