I know everyone is excited about Indiana rebuffing Trump. But in the redistricting wars started by Republicans, Democrats cannot get caught up focusing on November 2026. It is January 3, 2029 that matters the most. I explain why in my free Substack today. open.substack.com/pub/marionic...

open.substack.comDemocrats’ redistricting efforts must focus on January 2029 to avoid another Trump insurrectionUnder the Twentieth Amendment, new congressional representatives will be seated three days before the next January 6th - Democrats must do everything they can to win seats before then

I know that gate well - I’ve helped ICE detainees walk out of it. There is nothing strong there. It is an industrial area that has few local businesses. Thankfully the organization Casa de Paz is typically waiting outside to help these folks.

Three days after the August primary, election workers in one Washington county went to check for late mail-in ballots. They expected no more than a few dozen. Instead, there were more than 500 — each a vote that wouldn’t count.

This (ugly) ruling only raises the stakes of the (already massively important) Barbosa da Cunha case #SCOTUS will hear this term. Now, if the justices side with the government on the statutory question presented there, they’ll have to also take up and resolve the due process question presented here.

The First Amendment wasn’t actually “first.” The original First Amendment was meant to ensure that the House of Representatives grew in loose proportion to the country. Instead, the House’s size hasn’t changed since 1911. Today’s “One First” on that history—and the problems a capped House creates:
