This never gets old.

FRED ARMISEN gives a brilliant impression of Diana Ross’ drummer performing the intro of “I’m Coming Out” like it’s the first time he’s ever heard it. Love it.

If you listen to the intro to her song, Im Coming Out, the drummer brings the song in so perfectly but randomly. It was probably done on purpose but it their drumming was broken and inconsistent but still perfect.

I don’t get it at all. I went looking through the comments on both posts, and there’s not one explanation to be found. That tells me that it’s either such a big part of our cultural zeitgeist that no explanation is needed (nope!), or pretty much no one gets it (yup!).

I hate that I'm explaining this to you, but 99% of drummers would do an intro and jump right into the groove. Tony Thompson seems to meander as though he doesn't know the song, then suddenly joins the groove.

The song starts with a lively instrumental, no drums. Fred is pretending he’s Diana Ross’s drummer hearing it for the first time. When does he jump in? The original drummer is basically riffing at random. It’s funny because Fred somehow syncs perfectly with the chaotic beats. Listen to the song.

Being a drummer, must add my two cents here - that's a Ludwig Classic Maple kit in White Marine Pearl finish that Fred is playing. Listen how sonically good it sounds. Dang

he was on Ted Danson’s podcast and said he thought his career path was in music, that one of his first career breaks was being in the band associated with the Blue Man Group

That’s HIS band that dopey guy is trying to mock! They weren’t out to lunch - they were killing it - and later Diana Ross didn’t even recognize his name!! The entire gag is nonsense at best, misdirected
