This is who Portland Police have always been. Except nowadays they don’t need possums, because they have weapons of war to abuse citizens with.

1981 / 1986 News@40yearsago.bsky.social

[March 12th, 1981] Portland police officers dumped dead possums in front of the Burger Barn, a popular Black-owned restaurant. This racially motivated act sparked intense civil rights protests, significant political fallout, and lasting community outrage in Portland, Oregon.

Every single statewide elected official makes less than Portland City Council and local county commissions. Congresspeople don’t make much more. The governor makes less than six figures. State legislators aren’t paid a living wage. Want to have our best people doing these jobs? Raise the pay.

I'm telling you, he should think about running for statewide office! His name recognition is way up there now!

At this point we've basically done just about everything you might see as a throwaway joke in an 80s dystopian action movie

A scoop from me: CBS-owned local stations' election coverage will be sponsored by DraftKings, a deal that has stirred concern inside the company. www.status.news/p/cbs-draftk...

Replying to @seachanger.bsky.social

tl:dr is adding a state of the art HSR down I-5 with tons of tunnels could actually be cheaper than adding a lane to the freeway, but with the added bonus of cutting travel times, actually addressing congestion, and reducing carbon, noise, and tire microplastics pollution

PORTLAND!!!

Don't let the political and media establishment gaslight you. You aren't imagining things.

There is a conservative undercurrent in Portland politics and its well funded. Download a voter guide + social media graphics to spread the word! whosbuyingpdx.com

whosbuyingpdx.comPartners Against ProgressThey aren't Republicans. Some of their donors are. 128 donors to Portland's business-backed candidates also gave to Republicans. Among the progressive councilors running against them: zero.

Ah yes, another 70 year old calling millennials "kids" even though we're in our 40s

Portland DSA@portlanddsa.bsky.social

“That’s one thing about these kids: They don’t apologize,” she said of Mr. Green, 44. “They double down, and some people really like it.”

Dan Ryan needs to resign

pnwpolicyangel aka Angelita 👼@pnwpolicyangel.bsky.social

It’s wild that no other media outlet besides the Mercury is covering the Dan Ryan text saga…like, these lobbyists were calling councilors of color racial epithets. They called me a burrito. Meanwhile there were ten million stories about daddy gate, but crickets on this? Disparity in standards

How come the ones who want more cops also are incredibly shady and committing crimes of their own?

Portland Mercury@portlandmercury.com

A Multnomah County judge ordered Councilor Dan Ryan to preserve evidence on his personal phone until an ongoing public records lawsuit is resolved. “This is not a game of cat and mouse," Judge David Rees said. "There are some indications that those games are being played, and it has to stop today."

In sweet/serendipitous news, I just ran into one of the houseless youth I met recently and it turns out they live in my building through housing placement support 🥹 They told me the kids at the shelter are still talking about me because they’d never met a politician their age who’d been homeless 😭

I suspect that in the next couple years we'll have good-enough open models that run on much more modest hardware. Already I can run a pretty decent model on my 48GB M4 MacBook, doesn't seem nuts to think efficiency gains will continue.

Learned this term from the song "Cheeky Bastard" by The Scratch (Irish band): He's got the gansey and the jean shorts Wouldn't be the kind of man that's handy at sports

Love these photos of a gansey sweater over at Highland Threads. Such great knitting. A gansey is a type of fisherman sweater with identical front and back sides. Last photo shows one from Flamborough Marine, my favorite contemporary maker for this style. highlandthreads.co.uk/wick-museum

I think it’s unconscionable that we are willing to move heaven and earth to find money for stadiums, but seemingly incapable of doing the same to prevent the closure of schools. My constituents are outraged. They are right to be. There’s still time to fix this, but we’re going to need to lock in.

Will boomers STFU about drinking from hoses? Ridiculous. I drank from the hose too (but straight from the spigot tasted better and wasn't boiling hot) but I don't make it my whole personality.

Here’s a bit more detail about our Fair Share Tax proposal, for those of you who like to dig into the legislative text itself. Here are the changes in the exhibit that describe which firms get relief and which large corporations will see a hike.

Councilor Angelita Morillo@councilormorillo.bsky.social

Introducing the Fair Share Tax, Portland’s small businesses shouldn’t shoulder the burden while corporations reward CEOs hundreds of times more than their workers and enjoy generous tax breaks. Today, @councilorgreen.bsky.social and I will introduce the Fair Share Tax plan to change that.
