How about some nedwalkies through Shanghai for some Sunday scrolling? 🧵

This was my second visit to The Magic City. I got a full weekend to explore & got to see many neighborhoods this time, including more of the north Bund & French & English Concessions (separated colonial neighborhoods) mixed into the modern & old city.

So much Art Deco, if you keep your eyes open. The city had a huge building boom in the 20s and 30s before Japan invaded & a lot survived, thankfully.

I was in Shanghai last in 2011. I was there for a week and got very good at using the Metro. I had three takeways: 1. Metro security was mostly theater. They had x-ray machines at all the stations but probably could run anything through it.

2. It was really weird getting a whole lot of attention, being a white dude essentially touring alone. 3. You took your life into your hands every time you stepped off the curb into a crosswalk. That said, it is a beautiful city and I had a great time.

Ned, thank you. What a treat to see into another culture like this. I especially liked the quarter cylinder building; I bet it would be so cool living or working in it.
