There's something profoundly depressing in realizing and being continually reminded again and again that the public intellectual ecosystem doesn't necessarily reward having something to say so much as having something people feel compelled to react to.

Viewers like to put a face on a take. Mere consistency (rejecting any contrary evidence regardless of merit) and focus (do not talk about any other take) can make the career of a take merchant.
