Miller’s hard-line mass deportation agenda is reportedly falling out of fashion with the fascists, as mounting leaks have detailed his erratic behavior in backing his soft ethnic cleansing.

Deporting is 'soft ethnic cleansing'. A Holocaust is 'hard ethnic cleansing', and also what you get when you try the soft way and decide it costs too much and/or takes too much time. It always starts out 'soft'.

bsky.app/profile/mhar... There were 7 years between the Nuremberg Laws and the Wannsee Conference; you don't go from 0 to Holocaust overnight, even at the Trump admin's breakneck pace.

My point being that I don't think there's anything to gain by calling this "soft" ethnic cleansing except to avoid calling what's going on what it really is. Historically, ethnic cleansing always starts "soft" - see how far you can push the lines, do a little test run in a handful of locations.

Calling it "soft" ethnic cleansing minimizes what's happening, and gives Republicans cover; "mass deportations now" is an ethnic cleansing policy, no "soft" modifier on it. The time to put a stop to it is now, and minimizing its reality serves no good purpose.

Things rarely go from 0 to Holocaust immediately; even the Nazis took almost 10 years to go from persecution to Final Solution. And that's why being clear-eyed about what's happening now, and refusing to mince words, is so important.

In Minnesota, they've been targeting people based on skin color, language, neighborhood, and ethnicity; they've had an "arrest 'em all and sort it out later" methodology. That they met such strong community resistance surprised them and forced them to change tactics.
