Very few of these statues were on federal property or belonged to the federal government. And the president's has no authority over the Smithsonian. Certainly not by executive order. It was established by the Congress and governed by an independent Board. He can go fuck himself.

That statue was taken apart to be trucked away. It stood on a high pedestal, which is gone. Most important, the land was Virginia-owned (may now be city-owned), never federal. Not just this statue, either. There's a reason the segregation-era statues were on state, not federal land: the Civil War.

I grew up around the statues in Richmond Virginia. They taught absolutely nothing about history. They exist only as devices of indoctrination to the myths by White Supremacists of “fighting for states’ rights” as a “noble cause” (to treat other humans like barnyard animals).

This is never going to happen. However, the introduction of the term "improper ideology" into normal government-speak is distinctly chilling. The America I grew up with — the land of the free and the home of the brave — is flickering out under these monsters.
