This is literally the end of the rule of law. If a President can pardon people committing crimes on his behalf - and the Supreme Court says he himself can't be prosecuted for crimes committed as part of his job - then the government becomes a lawless entity able to violate our rights without limit.

Dawkins has been a cruel, bigoted fool for a long time now. Whether his target was Muslims, women, or trans folks, his ugliness is not new. I’m glad some orgs like the American Humanist Association have rescinded the honors they gave him, but he never deserved them to begin with

A good summation of David Brooks and "civility" politics generally: no one on the right-wing can ever be described honestly, while everyone who isn't on the right-wing is always portrayed as a radical breaking cherished norms.

"Jon Ossoff, my advice to him is, if you start calling your political opponents Nazis, maybe it's time to shut up. That's just not what we do here in this country." -- David Brooks, this evening. Remember, Brooks still gets very handsomely rewarded by the fossilized media for saying shit like this

This is a big deal for me and, as I've said a thousand times on here, I think the doomer-narrative of nothing being a win bc Trump and his people lie and cheat is dangerous. They lose. A lot. And rightfully so because they're doing illegal things. And taking those wins is important for democracy.

the idea that rufo has, at any point in his public career, been a sincere advocate for “colorblind meritocracy” is brain dead

Disheartening to see. The system is failing students *and* school personnel. Dedicated staff are doing their best with what they're given. And what they're given is a pittance and nowhere near what is needed to support students, both in resources and allocation.

"This election is about the threat of trans kids" is the worst possible messaging for Dems yet so many candidates are leaning into it. No voter will flip R->D over it. Low-info voters read this as "you're focused on bullshit that doesn't affect me" while the base reads this as "you're an asshole."

Adam Bonin@adambonin.bsky.social

Incredibly disappointing ad from Mary Peltola (D-AK) saying she neither supports "kids getting surgeries to change genders or men in girls bathrooms." Yes, flipping the Senate is essential and can stop bad laws and bad judges from happening, but she can do it without my support from the lower 48.

a lot of people act like there's a trade being offered where we give up trans athletes in sports and in exchange fascism is defeated forever

There are always groups that fascists target first. Shifts the overton window. Numbs people to the bigotry, discrimination, and violence. It's the Martin Niemöller poem for modern times.

Fascists are malicious people that want to see the world burn, believing they are the chosen few that will thrive among the ashes. Offering minoritized people up to the fascists is acting as if the fascistic impulse is ever sated. It's not.

the sum total of Sam Alito’s jurisprudence on voting adds up to “You have the right to vote for a Republican and if you aren’t likely to vote for a Republican, then Republicans are allowed to disenfranchise you.”

Have some damn principles, people. Either you'll defend people's rights or you won't. Feeding a right-wing moral panic is just shameful with predictable results. "Don't give ground" seems like a clear moral principle when you're fighting a fascist movement. Yet, here we are...

Erin Reed@erininthemorning.com

No candidate, regardless of party, will ever get my vote if they call me a "biological man" and advocate for laws targeting my community. Its that simple.

I remain convinced that the most effective response to a politician or a pundit who's pushing transphobia is "I'm not sure why you're obsessed with other people's genitals but it's really creepy"

It's not hard. It's called having principles Caving on what is ultimately a right-wing moral panic just concedes ground to people that are rabid in their transphobia. They are literally terrorizing *children* There are no "fair questions" or "good points." There is no common ground here

Ed Markey@edmarkey.bsky.social

In Massachusetts, we have a responsibility to protect the vulnerable and stand up for those who need it. We don’t throw trans kids under the bus for political points. We protect them—and all of our neighbors—because trans rights are human rights.

"They"? What? What's fun about Republicans is that they get to smear an entire political group as responsible for one random person's actions, but they themselves will deny any responsibility for the actions of their own deranged president or the racist billionaire who has bought them all.

The open secret to pedagogy research is that small class sizes/maximizing educator attention per pupil is the simplest, most effective, and unfortunately the least attractive to administration thing you can do to improve learning outcomes.

We know how to teach books in the age of AI: small classes, close reading, research-engaged learning (which is how you ’let students see you struggle’). The issue is nobody will hire and pay the requisite # of faculty to offer this.

Really is striking now many centrist pundits just cannot fathom that their beliefs about DEI and "woke" are solely based on vibes and the work of other reactionaries. It's the "repeat something enough and people will believe it." Glad Bouie took the opportunity to call this out

Meredith Conroy@meredithconroy.bsky.social

I clipped this. It’s worth listening to in full. I’m thrilled Bouie brought up polls about maintained support for DEI from 2025. I’m looking at Pew polling about BLM from the same time frame and triple checked it because public support also hasnt declined to the degree some discourse would suggest

All of this tracks. Most white journalists cant conceive of white nationalism as anything but fringe, so they report the open white supremacy of the MAGA movement as something else (economic anxiety!) as they did with the tea party. Tough to admit that it's just the same old basic white nationalism.

Jason Briggeman@jbriggeman.liberalcurrents.com

I think the punditariat's audience, which is older people, just cannot even remotely fathom that white nationalists run the country—that they do not believe it when they are told, nor recognize it when they see it. The pundits fall back on threats from the left, which are legible to their audience.

Data centers don't create jobs. Sure, maybe initial construction but day-to-day will be minimal. The data center *will* give more credence to your boss to fire you because they, too, fell for the AI pitch (that you're expendable and AI is cheaper)
