Does anyone really think BillyBobRay from Bohunk, AL is going to fill the job of an Indian PhD who decided to stay & legally work in the US on a H-1B visa for some innovative US startup? MAGA hates science & tech but it generates a lot of revenue for the US & keeps us at the forefront of innovation.

These bright young engineers, scientists & entrepreneurs want to stay in the US to pursue the American dream. But instead they'll now go home to India, China & elsewhere & compete with the US, a country cutting education, science & R&D investments. tRumponomics is helping China, Russia, India, etc.

My rural school district sponsors and employees several H1-B visa holders that teach in critical shortage content such as Math, English and Special Ed. I m sure most school districts are unable to cover 100K$ per teacher . This new tariff leaves critical classrooms unmanned, increases class sizes.

Please make sure to mention the loophole for companies for whom Kristi Noem deems should receive a waiver for this $100,000 fee. Hmm, that doesn’t seem like an opportunity for discrimination at all.

I think implying that all half million are high-skilled is a big stretch. A lot of them are paid crap wages and kept in control by their work status already. Like any population, some are skilled, some not at all. This will make most of them unskilled-just paid for.

Every - EVERY - tech mogul and senior executive at leading tech companies needs to publicly lambast the insane extortion of $100k from tech companies and future foreign-born entrepreneurs. Microsoft, Apple, OpenAI -- Tesla for god's sake! Bring down the rafters with the screams. No lame complicity!

If the concern is about exploiting foreign labor, why not just require companies to pay H1B visa employees the same wage as American workers? Wait, I know! Because Trump wants the gov to have that money, instead!

That’s what happens when you kowtow to a fascist dictator. Keep that money flowing to trump tech bros. HEL give you some breaks. And then there’ll be something else in the near future you will have to pay him for. Lol 😂

Trump will quietly hand out waivers to all of his cronies and/or companies that bribe him with crypto, full stop. MAGA now gets to select which companies prosper by taking full control over the talent pool. Also: Why would foreign workers want to come to the US under authoritarian rule? #NotGreat

Exactly! Just like there are exemptions for tarrifs and other policies if you have the $$$. This charge on H1B visas will not be imposed evenly. There's no way that the oligarchs who are funding this administration would allow this unless it was ultimately in their interest.

It will hurt technical advancements, health research, and future world-class physicians. It will be devastating to this country in so many ways. But, after reading P 2025, I realize, that is the very point of it all.

The problem is that the new regulation states that the $100K fee can be waived if the Sec. of State decides that it is in the US best interests to waive it for those companies what have essential contracts as a matter of discretion.

No, the Trump regime have built in exemptions at the discretion of the Secretary of Homeland Security that allow it to reward "loyal" companies. And the authoritarian grip gets a little tighter. bsky.app/profile/fili...

The H1-B visa thing is, like everything else in the Trump administration, set up to carve up exceptions for friends and punish enemies. It’s the authoritarian thru-line that stitches everything together.

Fuck tech companies. Sure, maybe this won't work because it will be corrupt just like he usually does. If it actually stops companies from having their indentured servants, then great. Even if it does nothing it will still be his least harmful action. I'll hope for the best.
