My kid’s excellent Special Education teacher transferred to a general ed classroom because she had to have jaw surgery and could not get hit in the face for several months while healing. The school could not gaurentee she would not get hit in the face while in special education. So there’s that.

A good friend and excellent teacher got kicked in the jaw, had months of dibilitating pain, and had to use PTO to go to physical therapy for TMJ rehab. PTO! Ridiculous.

I would say the lack of good paying jobs is the main reason. People do this type of work as a calling. It needs to be paid well, as do all teachers. Teacher pay should be in the high 5 figures, or maybe even in the 6 figure market. We need to work on fixing this.

High bar for entry, extremely low pay when measured against the demands of the job, exposure to abuse in the workplace, disrespect bordering on contempt from the society at large...what did I miss?
