Fox News should be sued every time it lies @nytimes.com why don’t you look at how the Fox News feed treats a story and how your feed treats a story. Sometimes big news doesn’t even make it to their channel. Show us how news is used and twisted to the point people don’t know truth

Good for him. More people should sue the largest media outlets for intentionally misleading coverage *and headlines*. Maybe then all of you would once again somewhat resemble journalistic integrity.

Eh. Not sure about this one. Trump tried to use the law a lot to shut up his critics, and politicians are generally not as able to sue for libel given the kind of chilling effect it might have. I guess I need to read a bit more about this to check its substance, but first instincts… not keen.

I know. I’m saying that Trump does these kinds of things and it’s bad. And that I’m unconvinced politicians should be able to sue news organizations, however terrible, like this because of their chilling effects on journalism. Also that precedent would make it unlikely for him to win.

Yes. And that is also wrong. And the main reason people caved to him was because he became President and they were terrified he’s use his power to harm them and their companies, not because he had a good case. As I say… wrong.

Regardless, he has made a mint off of this. So yes, happens. And not just Trump. Defamation suits have been filed and many have been won. Several fairly recent examples. I’m hopeful this one will be won, too. We shall see.

Governor Newsom can join the conga line of other people suing Fox News for lying. Purely from an anecdotal standpoint, these defamation suits against Fox sure do happen a lot, don’t they? I realize correlation does not imply causation, but how many is this?

1. For everyone cheering Newsom for 'fighting fire with fire': MAGA doesn't care about Dems suing. It's all less freedom to them, and net to the good. A news media cowering from saying anything controversial at all, truth or falsehood, is fine and dandy for them. Such a media still keeps the truth

2. suppressed. You can't blindly fight fire with fire. More often than not when you do, you end up helping burn the whole world down. And burned down worlds are better for autocrats, dictators, and tyrants than they are for good governance. When you fail to put out a burning building with water,

3. you don't bring a flame thrower into the mix out of frustration. As difficult as it is, you get smart and find a different way to put out the flames. Or you simply have to keep fighting it with water and limit the damage. Be smart.
