“God the father is neither man nor woman, he is omniscient, omnipotent…” -- Charlie Kirk (famous Christian bigot) "God is non-binary" -- James Talarico (Christ like Christian and candidate for US Senate in Texas) There is common ground between the jerks and the good people.

Good lord. Has Bezos watched the person whose inauguration he helped fund? Like, on any day ending in ...day? For a whole decade plus of days? WTAF?

When social media, credit card companies, streaming services and the rest provide a profile to manipulators so that they can manipulate you better, it is just as bad as if they provided the actual data. Profiles are a violation of privacy. This fact will only grow in importance under oppressive AI.

Another problem in our democratic society is that too many people think that voters don't have the primary responsibility to elect good leaders - and they think it is so self-evident as to be obviously 'fact'. And by extension it is not primarily the voter's fault when good leaders are not elected.

do you think that being loquacious makes you more right or are you just like this there is zero that you can say that will undo the *fact* that you are choosing to be mad at voters more than politicians. and there is zero that you can say that will make that not wildly incorrect. sorry, chum

1/ One of the problems we have today in the world is people believing there is a difference between logic and opinion. Doing our best to personally apply logic to a situation doesn’t transform our conclusions from opinion to fact. I had said “In your opinion.” And this was the response:

3/ And because of this, they also involve considerable time. It should be wholly unsurprising to us that reasoning is actually inherently a social process requiring long patience, but people do forget it often. It is because of all this that analysis of complex political matters become elevated

4/ to the realm of fact vanishingly rarely. In any case, there is a vast branch of philosophy seeking to know when we actually know things. Suffice it to say here that it is not a simple matter. Once you have subjected yourself to it, you learn to spot one thing clearly. The arrogance of ignorance

2/ Rigorous deductive logic can be part of the process of transforming conjecture into truth. But, this transformation is so tricky, a set of formal processes has been built up around it. One striking feature of these processes is that they involve groups of people, not people acting alone.

9/ impactful words to, well, have more impact. But, I believe words depicting horrors each have different impacts, and ethnic cleansing is the impactful phrase/word that still applies, not genocide.

7/ calculations are excessive and disproportionate. I also believe the reason they make them this way is to create terror. And the reason they want to create terror is to ethnically cleanse the Palestinian areas. For the foregoing reasons, I believe we must morally drop our support for Israel

8/ and declare our friendship with them ended. But, a genocide is the the intentional attempt at extermination of a whole people, and I don't believe, so far, that this is indicated by Israel's actions. And yes, I do understand that many, including the UN, like to extend the definitions of

5/ assuming we're not starting from these places, Israel does get to cause some non-combatant Palestinian deaths without incurring moral outrage. The question is not necessarily 'how many', but rather 'what makes the number of deaths reasonable per strike', which is exactly what Israel is

6/ supposedly attempting to systematically judge. The idea #Gessen engages in where he takes the number of Palestinian combatants and multiplying by the average number of acceptable Palestinian deaths is not a logical thing to do. It simply would never work out this way. Now, I agree that their

4/ assumption Israel uniquely doesn't have the right to defend itself. This way they don't have to defend pacifism, but still get to fundamentally object to any military action by Israel. If you start from there, a single Palestinian life lost, combatant or non-combatant, is an atrocity. But,

If Democrats lose the mid-terms in a fair vote, there will be no introspection to follow. It will be the country, the voters, who need to change, not the Democrats. When I advised introspection after 2024, it was with the idea that Trump 2.0 was going to be like 1.0 for the most part. Nope.

Trump should not give concessions to Iran, but he should also bear the full domestic political price of not giving concessions to Iran. He started a dumb unnecessary war, but now that he is in it, he should not make concessions. The world will not be better off w an emboldened Iran.

10/ and reason support our intuitive kindness and compassion far, far more than they support the cruelty usually embodied by the right - though not solely of course. Sometime true compassion DOES warrant harshness. Things are not black and white. But, normally, the left will win more of the time.

8/ it, a good person must try to satisfy both demands of empathy; and for this, they must turn to facts and objective reason. We must weigh all the injustices, if any, posed by empathy. Think them through, and if they remain in conflict after analysis, find some kind of balanced compromise.

9/ Now, the far right is trying to capture the notions of #facts, #objectivity, and #reason for itself. It cannot be stated how enormous of a blunder it would be to cede these notions to them in a blind and insane embrace of #empathy as a sole or even primary guide to morality. Facts, objectivity

7/ as a supreme guide, there is a very good reason to ignore this side of this empathy coin: Empathy would be vastly in conflict with itself here. Ignoring the need for empathy on one side of that dissonance is an efficient albeit specious way of dealing with the conflict. But, to really resolve

And Biden actually added manufacturing jobs during his years, but not Trump. Trump hasn't at all. So, Trump's appeal to the working class should evaporate now. Hopefully they'll look more closely at the actual record in the future. Biden was creating jobs for the working class.

Trump's comments always age so well.

Trump is trying to sow distrust in the more objective media institutions so that people who voted for him will have an explanation for why they are souring on him and a reason not to abandon him in the mid-terms. He's lying to them that they've been duped by fake media.

A blatant violation of the First Amendment:

I love watching all the #McConnell conspiracy theorists, who claimed he was dead, now trying to save face by going on and on and on about how frail he is. Get over it. Senators continuing in the Senate on their death beds is old news.

People need to be hyper aware that commercial #AI is designed intentionally to give you a dopamine hit when you use it. It flatters your ego in subtle ways. It is learning how to do it even better. This will drive subscriptions to drive revenue. You’re being manipulated. To make other people rich.

PSA: The best way to make #scrambled #eggs is in the microwave. Hands down. Fluffy as hell, and still moist. And the best way to make #hardboiled eggs is in the Instapot. The shells practically fall off when you peel them. You're welcome.

There will be the die hard conspiracy theorists who think whatever to keep from being embarrassed, but I hope the vast majority learn a lesson about mistaking the barely plausible with the real world. #mcconnell really was convalescing.
