Having worked for a big chain HQ once... All the meals are ready meals at most. Recruiting good and reliable chefs is hard. But people who can take something out of a packet and type a code in a combi-oven/fryer/or even a hob are much easier to find.

Oh sure, most gastro pubs are like that apart from griddled stuff. But it was more the brand that got me. Toby Carvery isn't exactly premium.

It’s a cheap ready meal - it’ll taste and cost the same whether branding says Toby Carvery or not. M&B has much more appealing brands in its portfolio that could be used. Unless there really are people who still consider Toby Carvery to be a ‘treat’.
