This is exactly what I was concerned about when I read about this. If I have Claude proofread my original work and I accept enough of its suggestions (even though they may be no more than your Word-grade grammar suggestions you'd have gotten pre-AI), now suddenly my work is "generated by AI."

Claude, this is some bullshit: support.claude.com/en/articles/... “Claude may not be the original author. People often use Claude to proofread, translate, summarize, or convert files. The output can carry a Claude mark even if the underlying ideas, text, or data originated from another source”

What I understood from the paper, I don't think that's the case. Unless you accept word synonyms and the like from the LLM. It also gives an (IMHO) interesting question: where's the line after which what's produced *is* AI generated?

And like we can already tell when something is slop that no human put real effort into. And another group of questionable people will figure out how to strip the mark. Leaving, as always, honest hard working people holding the bag.

Or just don't use AI, problem solved. Are you so incapable of doing your job that you need a magic box to fix it for you? If you'd read the paper, removing the watermark takes a lot of effort, effort you can also apply to the original job at hand :P
