Clark Griswold had a choice. He had a Volvo GLE in the garage but he chose to drive cross country in the Family Truckster. It would have been a very different movie had they gone with the reliable Swedish sedan.

That liftoff into the desert, and the subsequent damage; I’m not sure there would be that much difference… then again, I’ve never owned a Volvo, much less a Family Truckster 😂🤷🏻

Those Volvos were very common and successful on the rally circuit.

Volvos are still “upper tier” vehicles but they’re definitely geared toward family and safety.

I would have no ground to doubt that. And, given the lasting quality of those cars, I’d imagine you are correct. I don’t see a family wagon doing well on those circuits 😂
