It's time for the Arlington County Board Town Hall Meeting. We have ~84 people signed up so it's going to be a very long thread of skeets. 1/many

/2 Up first is @janefgreen.bsky.social talking about how apartments helped her family and how the failure to update the GLUP makes it hard for people like her to live here.

/3 Next few speakers talk about ALPRs. Some crime fear mongering versus civil liberty advocates.

/4 Pat F. talking about the joys of living in Arlington and how it used to be affordable. Talking about the importance of opportunities for all through plentiful housing for all.

/5 Back to flock. I have a feeling Flock and housing will be the big topics tonight. I also got my chance to speak and as far as I know the first to use the phrase "my boi" in official comment.

/6 Alice H is talking more about the value of more housing. Also, some snark toward NiMBYs.

/7 Another great pair of pro housing speakers by Scott B. and Jeffery W.

/8 First batch of assorted topics: - Deer Culls and alternatives. - Some personal complaints regarding how liberties operate and the conduct of HOA board members. - Supporter of after school programs is delivered by an alum and volunteer. - Support for free healthcare clinic.

/9 A child speaks about the need for crossing guards. Recognizes that bad drivers are the problems. Another discussion of Israel/Palestine and wanting to avoid doing business with companies involved in warcrimes in Palestine.

/10 Noisy back and forth from audience during the prior speaker. We have a few more speakers about ethnic cleansing and how the board can/has/should respond. Lots of linking flock to warcrimes.

/11 The next speaker's topic is listed as "still deciding". Very relatable. He didn't show up. Still relatable.

/12 Rev. CJ Valenti delivers are sermon for more housing.

/13 More speaking about a recent example of police abuse. As we approach the halfway point we are seeing housing, flock, and Israeli war crimes as the primary topics.

/14 We have the first historic preservation based opposition to more housing. Concerned with density and classic more discussion before action. Thankfully, the next speaker (Ms. Daniela) is speaking about the harm of high housing costs.

/15 Now we have an anti-woke complaint by a local candidate. Big some people were mad at me energy. Pro-ICE and generally and blaming protesters for ICE's bad conduct. We now get a lovely speaker talking about a memorial to the victims of slavary. Much better (praiseworthy) woke comments.

/17 Sharon H taking about housing and the potential housing! Plus anti-street parking and pro-traffic enforcement. Next speaker praises affordable housing and critiques missing middle as unaffordable. Sadly missing the point on missing middle.

/18 Back to Flock and war crimes. Up next housing problem denial. Thinks the status quo is good except for missing middle. Wants to think about childcare not housing. Another housing denial denial thinking that a 5% vacancy rate is proof of a housing shortage. "Luxury housing" take a drink.
