Remdesivir has been approved for off-label "compassionate use" and the FDA has said they won't prosecute anyone using/ prescribing GS441524 since the MAIN issue is it's a patented medicine that's approved for humans, but not animals, and the patent holders don't want to apply for use in animals.

To be fair, applying for use in animals is a whole thing, so its probably not worth it for the company to do unless they get substantial pressure for it.
