Definitely an improvement! A year ago we were fostering a kitten who developed FIP. Our shelter treated her with GS-441524. And 84 days later she completed the course, had 3 month observation period and was adopted! Living her best life as a spoiled baby who loves to snuggle.

I know a few people who have treated their cats successfully - some back when you had to basically get the meds from the black market. Glad to see more mainstream success in the area!

Off topic, but I'm often hearing about a kidney disease treatment out of Japan that holds promise. I can't tell from social media if this is legit, or just hype.

I lost a beloved cat to FIP in 1995. At the time, vets barely even knew anything about it. She got so sick so fast, and then was gone. I am grateful there is treatment for it now.

I lost a precious kitten to FIP over a decade ago. It was devastating, especially because I took him to a supposed naturopathic vet who was incompetent. The ER vet had diagnosed Samson correctly and warned me not to let him suffer. The naturopath contradicted her and her diagnosis. Glad there’s cure

Remdesivir has been approved for off-label "compassionate use" and the FDA has said they won't prosecute anyone using/ prescribing GS441524 since the MAIN issue is it's a patented medicine that's approved for humans, but not animals, and the patent holders don't want to apply for use in animals.

What I consider to be our sweetest cat died from FIP. That was around the time the vaccine became available. After that we had our cats vaccinated as recommended by vets (every year or two years, I can't remember which)

the treatment is great, its availability is abysmal in some places. in Hungary many vets still euthanise the cat with FIP because they do not know of the treatment, or (correctly) assume it is illegal to obtain it for cats. only civilians in facebook groups distribute it.

One of the cats I enjoy on Tumblr, Belphie (from Pangur-and-Grim), was part of the studies for the treatment He's a Devon Rex and he got FIP as a kitten, so his fur didn't grow in properly, but apart from that he's a happy little bundle of trouble

I lost a kitten in 2002 and another in 2009 to this horrible disease. I’m so glad they found a treatment and I hope it becomes less costly. It broke my heart - twice.
