So uh when you posted this I thought was a joke, but then I did a quick comparison between my Following feed on Bluesky and Blacksky and uh, wow. It's substantially different. A lot of accounts I follow don't show up there. I can find them if I search, I can see their posts when other people

repost their stuff but ... this has a lot of work to go to even reach Fediverse levels of user experience. I don't know why this is happening, so I won't speculate yet.

Or, conversely, it's fine, and "Fediverse levels of UX" are actually acceptable to users of Bluesky and adjacent platforms, as it turns out

My take is that it's fine, it's just funny because avoiding the inconsistencies of fedi was such a major design goal of AT.

I kind of think so too? But maybe I'm just fedi-brained.

A couple of classic examples of this behavior today ... a like from @omg.jacky.wtf and a repost from @hypervisible.blacksky.app only show up in blacksky.community, not on the Bluesky app. We're all on Blacksky's PDS so that presumably has something to do with it.

But PDSes aren't instances, they don't affect visibility, is what I heard...

That’s accurate. It’s way more likely this is a bug in our follow feed construction

The number of instance-like *implementation* behaviors is pretty striking. I included a few here blog.ricci.io/what-i-wish-... - I'm happy to update this if I've got any of them wrong.

Yeah a lot of that will get removed once we finish moving to OAuth on the bsky app - proxying everything through the PDS, read after write in the PDS, etc. They were early decisions that are no longer needed, but require us to do a suite of updates on our app

And what's the timeline for just switching the login to OAuth like e.g. blacksky.community does login right now?
