Katie Zacharia on failing the bar exam: "We just said, 'I'll take the bar and see what happens.' The results are somewhat inconsequential because I knew I wouldn't need the bar in China." (She spent years lying that she's an attorney!)

She claimed to be legal counsel for a California non profit. Even holding yourself as legal counsel, even if you didn't ever actually provide services, is a misdemeanor in California.

I believe she resides in CA, and has stated she was “General Counsel” for a CA nonprofit on her LinkedIn profile, so a complaint has already been filed against her with the State Bar of California.

Under California Business and Professions Code Section 6126(a), it is a misdemeanor punishable by up to one year in county jail, a $1,000 fine, or both, for an unlicensed person to hold themselves out as practicing or entitled to practice law in the state.

Gee whiz is that kinda like overstaying your Visa Being late on a Green Card renewal Having a tourist visa & not reporting address change or just crossing the border undocumented all misdemeanors w specific fines or agencies to deal w the misdemeanors or CIVIL infractions/crime So no big deal huh😏

I think if a corporation wants to hire a non-lawyer as general counsel they can. But I'd like to see the stats on how many GC's are not practicing lawyers. I can't see a lot of companies hiring a person who hasn't passed the bar and therefore never actually practiced law as the firm's legal counsel.
