Housing developers constantly saying their developments will actually increase biodiversity because they’ll pop some trees in know for a fact those trees will be murdered for SUV parking within a few years.

A typical new-build street in Barrhaven over just 5 years. City trees get planted. Owners pave around the trees. Trees die. Owners finish paving their new illegal parking spaces. Street View only goes to 2024; think the remaining two trees are still there?

Whilst I can absolutely believe that can be a genuine thing* in incredibly rare occasions it doesn’t look like any of these homes fit that category let alone all of them. *There are almost always alternatives to seven cars per house and low income homes generally have far fewer cars, usually 1.

Right but people do use that as a leading example. “I need to have a car, how would I get shopping otherwise.” Delivery and (e)-Cargo bikes all cheaper and easier and more fun. “But I’m in the sticks” this conversation was about suburban/urban which is >80% of people anyway.
