This tells me I don't need to worry about 74% of the games that come out on Steam. They're not competition, they're background noise.

GamesIndustry.biz@gibiz.bsky.social

Over 700 games launched on Steam in one week for the first time, though 74% had fewer than 10 reviews 530 titles had zero to nine reviews, while 190 had over ten reviews, according to data from ICO Partners www.gamesindustry.biz/over-700-gam...

This might say more about me than them but... I'm surprised that many people were able to navigate the bureaucracy of incorporating, filling out the banking forms, etc, just to get their game listed... Only to not even have 10 friends to buy and review your game?

How many games released on steam are devs realistically expecting to be successful hits that don't make it? That's what these types of stories are implying, but I just don't see it. Like you say, I see a lot of games being released that are not competition for most professional game developers.

You look on the Nintendo and PS5 stores and most of the stuff released is absolute crap. Quick knock-off games, AI generated slop, asset flips with different titles, etc. I'm never, ever going to look at those types of games and think they compare to something that takes years to get right.
