I‘ve been hearing a lot of feedback around adding support for icons In DSDS. I‘m trying to abstract that to something more general. What do people think about an “asset” entry kind that covers icons, illustrations, fonts, Lottie files, etc.?

The asset umbrella makes sense, though icons still need semantic variants, sizing rules, and accessibility guidance.

I agree, though I suppose it matters _what_ we need to say for them. I imagine it might just stop at "this is hosted" because each has different kinds of metadata.

i’d say hosted stuff still needs some docs. urls for different envs if there are, directory structure for asset types if there are, searchable library of available assets etc

Icon-specific metadata matters here. Stroke weight, viewBox, visual style and licensing information help maintain consistency when selecting icons for a design system.
