It’s because they took this photo at night on that part of the earth, just with a super high aperture to brighten it up. You can see the bright lights along the coasts
"The blue is fading. The earth is more polluted!"
No No no. The new photo was shot at a ISO of 51200 (Film cant reach that level) on the dark side of earth with a long exposure. (Is why you can see the stars Venus and the atmosphere but looks fuzzy.)
The 1972 photo is a highly touched up photo.
also for comparison. Here is another photo they took of earth's day side at ISO 400 at a faster shutter speed. Notice you can no longer see the night area of the planet or the stars and everything looks a lot cleaner?
Thats not ice, it's cloud. The photo is showing equatorial and temperate regions - the big yellow patch is the Sahara. If there were ice in that photo the world would have even more significant problems than we do now.
I understand. I’m just saying it is not the mic drop evidence of our pollution habits as it is being presented.
We have plenty of other stuff to point to, just not this.
Don't read too much into the differences. Today's picture was taken of the night side of Earth, and with a digital camera, rather than film. The first image has undergone a lot more postprocessing.
This is like the whole blue and gold dress thing… it’s depressing how little the avg person understands how cameras and exposure levels work, and that all images can be manipulated after being shot lol
