It’s coming out on my birthday! Yay! Also, I love that you have a photo of Joan Blondell on the side of the page just because. No reason is needed for Joan Blondell.

Just finished reading. Even in the early 30's, sex and violence sold! The code hampered films for decades & was overbearing, but reading what studios were putting to film, a discussion code be had that some sort of "pause" WAS needed. Great book, and I have an even longer list of films to watch

Last week, Kate Lister did a really interesting, fun and entertaining episode on her excellent History podcast, ‘Betwixt The Sheets’ about pre-code actresses. Not a superficial overview like I expected but a proper deep dive into the subject. Her guest was film critic Mick LaSalle.
