(Fortunately I eradicated this tendency as an undergrad, because science writing so rarely seemed to encourage writing for your worst reader. "Target audience" was the goal and, well, after doing that for like 25 years how do you stop.)

(My target audience is myself; keep in mind I was writing for ~30 years without letting a single other person read my fiction specifically because I did not give a shit what anyone else thought about my hobby.
