I hope my future smart TV enjoys hearing "Oh sweetie! Don't do that, my darling baby! No no! That is NOT for Franca my little pwincess! No it is NOT! No it is not!" as well as "FIASCO I SWEAR TO GOD YOU HECKITYDANG ASSCLOWN" until its electronic brain eventually goes insane and explodes

It's finally happened: the improved quality of machine transcription and the greater ability to extract value from unlabelled data means "your tech is eavesdropping on you for marketing purposes" has crossed from "false conspiracy theory" to "true and concerning" www.theverge.com/tech/991190/...

I currently have a smart-but-not-very-smart ultra-cheap 'floor model' TV I bought in 2008 when I moved back to Edmonton and it sometimes has trouble communicating with *checks notes* the power outlet

I have a smart TV and kind of wish I didn't, but my old TV (which was fine!) glitched out and developed a horizontal black line all the way across the screen. So I got a new one. And then I spent MONTHS ON END troubleshooting sound sync problems. Augh. "Smart," my ass.

Hilariously, what seems to have fixed it (I think! I hope! Please stay fixed!) was the fact that I had to have my flooring replaced, so absolutely everything got unplugged, moved into storage, and then moved back and reconnected. It was the extreme version of "turn everything off and on again."
