My read on the issue is that CP doesn’t need to be profitable, it just needs to lose less money than it currently is losing. One way to do that is to increase share of parcel deliveries, but that requires a business model that the union would (rightly) not be happy with. Real shit situation

There running a service like a shitty private corporation where the only path they see to success is not expansion or improving services, but cuts, cuts to jobs, quality and the service itself, for what? Who benefits from a hallowed out Canada Post when it could be so much more for canadians.

It isn't black and white. CP will never (again) turn a profit, but it doesn't need to bleed so much cash. Make delivery weekly, maybe add an option ($) for quicker delivery. Posties are paid well, and have great benefits. We might need a lot less staff and hopefully we can ease them out.

The starting wage is a few $ more than min wage, if you get more than 1000hr a year you get a raise. You don’t get any more hrs after 950, weird how that works? Benefits are if you’re permanent and after a certain length of time. Not much is covered, horrible plan

When big tech says "disrupt", what they most often mean is "break". Canada needs to build ways to disconnect from global oligarchic corporations like Amazon before it's too late.

They are competing with chimeras they have created. In fact, if you regularly receive parcels in the post, there is no competition, Canada Post has the best service for the price. Yeah, there's the weekend thing, but it still is faster with CP, it just is.

Only if you insist it has to turn a profit, which an essential service people depend on for their meds amongst other things should never have to. We spend much more to maintain unpopular private industry that would not stand to the markets otherwise and only profit very few Canadians, if any.
