In a second Trump term, Texas could get another chance to whittle down Medicaid — with fewer constraints. “We expect the Republicans to move very quickly to cut Medicaid dramatically and indeed end its guarantee of coverage,” said one advocate. I’m sorry for all normal Texans but senate and governor races aren’t gerrymandered. I’m grateful I live in a blue state and best of luck.

Cutting Medicaid is not only inhumane but is expensive. People who have no medical insurance won’t go to the doctor when ill, will get sicker, end up in the emergency room and then hospital care. Not being able to pay the bills, the government will have to step in.

You have to be in power to pass legislation. Democrats have not been in that kind of power since 2008/9 when they passed the ACA. ‘That kind of power’ means: control of the House, filibuster-proof majority in the Senate, and the Presidency because Republicans will not work with Democrats.

Got to love the final quote from a retired construction worker who voted for the Felon47… I agree “there’s too much fat” and government should be cut back but I don’t think they’re going to yank health care away from people,” he said. “If they do, I’d be really angry.” FAFO.

They never took it away. What they did was allow a 2-tier system to emerge where the rich could use private insurance meaning you could opt out of the public system. My wife is Chilean and a doctor. My father-in-law was a doctor and med school professor in Chile during that whole period.

Texas is the leading state that is adhering verbatim to Project2025 aka America First. Anything those legislators try to pass that is not bipartisan should be fought hard because other states will be following suit.

We are going on 9 months with my mother Medicaid pending in her Texas nursing home. Her 123 page application was submitted at the end of April 2024. They asked for further documentation, most of it already supplied in the original app. We have requested status updates twice with no response.

I used to think the point of government was to help the most vulnerable. That was naive. The government wants to help the rich and powerful. So much for protecting the meek like Jesus commanded.

So let them, let Red States see what happens when you listen to the GOP. Now is the time for Blue States to rise up and prove they are better at wroking for the people. As one living in Denmark now, I can say, not one state in America is better for the people. Democrats are failing too. #6'Elon

I guess one of the good questions is truly "why?" and expecting a thorough answer. This isn't arguing over paint colours. This is about keeping your community solid.

"As many as 44,789 Americans of working age die each year because they lack health insurance, more than the number who die annually from kidney disease. The study comes at a pivotal moment in history, as Congress considers legislation to expand health insurance coverage." pnhp.org/news/lack-of...

There’s no real culture in Texas anymore. There maybe pockets that are unique, but a large portion of it is big truck/SUV driving gym bros and influencer moms going to their local Chuy’s drinking shitty margs and then going to church on Sunday.
