NEW: Research shows more flood deaths occur in Texas than in any other state. But state lawmakers have cleared the way for residents to stay in risky places, even after flooding killed at least 119 people in Kerr County last summer. w/ @texastribune.org

Reading appears obvious current GOP RUNNING Texas has NO interest- INTENT-desire to govern in ways benefiting the hard-working tax-payers in Texas. Texas GOP are needlessly cruel, ridiculously pompous, totally greedy & constantly grasping for more money-favors uspolitics.einnews.com/news/texas-c...

It's taken Texan's years of voting Republican to get them to where they are today. Even despite an electrical grid/system that can't keep the power on during smallest of storms they are going to elect the biggest crook for a Senator!

Plus the state power grid is a #bigly problem, energy demands, severe weather, etc., & there are over 500 energy & water draining data centers. Greed over everything. 💰

More reasons Texas needs to become a blue state with a better and careing governor and a better senator like JT to be your next senator on November midterm election day please

Not to be too cold-hearted, but if they are dumb enough to rebuild there, let them. Make sure they understand the risk and that's it. Good luck getting insurance. No public funds to help afterward as choices have consequences.

I lived near a lake that flooded every spring. The houses on the lakeshore were the most expensive houses in the area. Every year the lowest of them flooded, and the owners demanded money from their insurance company only to discover they didn't have flood insurance. COULD not buy flood insurance!

They had all been informed of this when buying and insuring their houses. But they forgot. Lady at my insurance company said some had come back with the same demand five years in a row! Some hired expensive lawyers. Still didn't get them any insurance money since there was no such policy.

Some would sell their houses because they didn't want to pay for the repairs themselves. So every year there were new owners, informed about the inability to buy flood insurance for these houses, but as soon as the floods happened, they were screaming at their insurance agents.

Ii will say once again, IDEOLOGIES DO NOT DESTROY COUNTRIES, CORRUPTION DOES. We have a Russian asset in the White House and his goal is just that. Getting rich during the process is a plus.

And they will say to their government, keep screwing me over... As long as you're keeping the brown and trans people and women in line. See, the thing they still don't understand is having control over others doesn't come for free. Suck it up. At least pregnant women get to die in your state.

It only changes when after the 2nd/3rd loss, insurance companies refuse to write homeowner & business policies or lenders refuse to finance because the losses are too great & are baked into the cake. Texas, like Florida may underwrite crappy policies to plug holes in coverage but it's not a cure.

They knew about these problems back in the 70s when I lived there. Nobody did anything about it. That's a half century of politicians passing the buck.

Those kinds of figures only include immediate drowning or being hit by debris. Afterwards there's the long-term effects of pollution, disruption to healthcare etc, and even ptsd, that afaik only one study has even tried to quantify. Floods are horrible.

As long Abbott keeps lining his pockets with insider deals nothing will change but for his rusty wheelchair soon to be laced in gold. That comes before the youth, elderly and disabled of Texas. If they were smart and of sound mind they'd vote for Talarico.

People on here will believe and rage about anything without even a modicum of critical thinking. I should start a social media site that's all lies and false equivalence. But Fox and Twitter beat me to it. :(

Well there's the one Trump started. It's not only straight propaganda and disinformation, but to access it, you have to reveal your address, phone number, email, credit card information, etc which is then used for targeted messaging and recruitment.

Not true! I fact check Trump posts on Truth Social, no sign in, no account. I'm sure you have to have one to post or reply, but you can read for free. (At least Trump's posts, which is about all it seems to be.)

"They said it was daft to build a castle in a swamp, but I built it anyway. It sank into the swamp. So I built another. It sank into the swamp. I built a third, it burnt down, fell over and sank into the swamp. I built a fourth and it's still standing!" - Monty Python & the Holy Grail

Once should have been enough not to rebuild since nothing was being done to fix things and being aware that it's gonna happen again. So, you're right, feeling sorry for them I can't do either.

Bet they vote Republican after all the definition of insanity is voting for the same folks who never help you over and over again while you thank them

What did Trump do in terms of getting federal assistance? Did the Army Engineers assist as they have done in previous disaster zones under other presidents? It's really sad, that saving lives and property is so tightly entwined in bad politics.WTF

This is Murrica and they have the god given right to build in flood plains. They're finding out about climate change, first hand and in real time. Whether they want to admit it or not is irrelevant. Mother nature doesn't care what you believe.

Texas has no clue on handling public emergencies Don't forget Uvalde An unparalleled law enforcement FUCK UP Proving that government & law-enforcement doesn't deserve a goddamn penny in protecting citizens And worthless cops should under the same sentencing guidelines as citizens

They don't care. Republicans don't care. They are perfectly happy to let us die as they take their kickbacks from corporations and billionaires and trade stocks on insider information and give big public contracts to their friends and families. If we aren't like them, they'd just as soon we die.

Very important story. Is there any data on how much real estate developers are investing in quashing regulation. And how much cities involved discouraging regulation bc they are want the tax revenue?

Just saying….if it flood once, it’ll flood again….doesn’t take a genius to figure it out…if they want to live there then they need to build it flood-proof!! They can pray to God all they want, but Mother Nature is in control!!

Thanks for the article! I understand the ties to the land and the area for local people. This is what government is suppose to do. they should enact commonsense laws which will protect people. Some laws are hard to swallow or might cost people more money, but programs should also be in place which

I used to feel that way until someone pointed out to me that for far too many Americans, the only land they can afford sits in a flood plain. Now I'm conflicted on the issue.

One thing retired people must consider if they move out of state for cheaper housing; does that state gvt take action to mitigate these kinds of disasters that ISN'T going away due to climate change (100 year flood flooding EVERY year), and whether that state offers full civil rights.

I grew up in Toronto, Canada. One of the strange sights I saw on the regular was an abandoned house in the Don River Park, a nice two storey victorian style. I found out that the river valleys of Toronto used to have lots of houses right near the rivers and tucked near the valley walls

But then hurricane Hazel struck in the 1950's, and destroyed dozens of houses and killed 85 people, sweeping many of them in their houses out into Lake Ontario. Rescue crews helplessly listened to their cries and prayers. Those river valleys became parks and wilderness. Never built up again.

One question: “WHO did you vote for?” If you KEEP voting for these worthless assholes just so you can be true to the rapeublicans then STFU it IS what you voted for!! Damn it’s NOT rocket science people!!! 🤬

I live near this area. Two years ago when electronic flood sensors were being considered MAGAs stood up loudly screaming they were “woke”. A year later, in July ‘25, at least a few of those MAGAs were swept completely away amidst huge broken trees in raging flood waters.
