so has pop culture become so disseminated and narrowcasted that nobody has it in common anymore or am i just not paying attention to what happens in the mainstream anymore?

maybe the bigger question is the degree to which consensus reality has been altered by a pop culture landscape optimized to individual preferences. i'm not making a value judgment on these things, not being nostalgic for blockbuster video or whatever, just pointing it out.
